Okoboji Girls Basketball Wins Close Game With Sheldon
The Okoboji girls improved to 3-3 on the season with a 51-45 win over Sheldon on Friday night in Milford. The Pioneers had a great start to the game, jumping on the Orabs 10-0 early and would take that 10 point lead into the second quarter at 16-6. Okoboji would push the lead to 20-6 but the Orabs would not go away and knocked the lead to 32-22 at the half. The Pioneers would push the lead back to 12 but Sheldon hit a couple big three pointers to trim the lead to 34-28 before Okoboji would end the quarter on an 11-8 run to take a 45-36 lead into the final stanza. Sheldon went on an 8-1 run to cut the lead to 46-44 with 3:00 remaining but the Pioneers would make enough plays down the stretch to pull out the win. Okoboji was led by sophomore Magan Christopherson’s 17 points and 3 steals; sophomore Camry Jones had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds and fellow sophomore Kallyn Stumbo added 11 points to go along with 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Sheldon was led by senior Taylor Weber’s 13 points and junior Hanna Van Meeteran’s 12 points. Okoboji will hit the road on Monday for a battle with Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayshire.
Comments From Coach Adams:
“I thought we came out with some great energy tonight and got out to a nice lead. You have to give Sheldon credit for never going away, as they hit some big shots and guarded very well. We told the girls that they would not go away and they really battled. We missed some free throws late in the game but did a great job of getting the offensive rebounds to keep the possession alive. It was great to see Magan Christopherson hit some big shots as she had a huge first half for us. Camry was great on the glass and Kallyn had a very solid floor game.”
