Okoboji vs. West Hancock

The #5 Okoboji Pioneers defeated West Hancock 68-48 in second round Region 2 play Tuesday night in Milford.  Both teams got out of the gate fast, as Okoboji would take a 6-2 lead but West Hancock would stay close the entire quarter, hitting a 25 foot 3-pointer to end the quarter and pull the Eagles within 20-18.  Okoboji would crank up the defense in the second quarter, holding West Hancock to just five points, while going to their inside game, as Megan Peschong, Molly Mitchell, Kailye Hromatko and Mallory Miler all went to work in the paint, helping the Pioneers open up a 34-23 halftime lead.  Okoboji would push the lead in the third quarter behind stellar defense, and would take a 52-34 lead into the final stanza.  A Brooklyn Barnett 3-pointer would give the Pioneers a 61-40 lead and they would melt away the rest of the game at the free throw line.  Megan Peschong led Okoboji with another double-double, scoring 21 points, grabbing 12 rebounds while also handing out 4 assists and blocking 2 shots; Molly Mitchell also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while blocking 3 shots; Emily Wintz added 14 points with 6 assists; Kailye Hromatko chipped in with 8 points and 3 rebounds and Shaelyn Adams lead Okoboji with 3 steals while adding 6 rebounds.  West Hancock was led by Maria Gonzalez’s 16 points while Faith Hammer added 12 points.  Okoboji improves to 21-1 on the season and will host North Union in Region 2 semi-final action on Friday at 7:00PM.
