Okoboji Girls Basketball Gets Siouxland Conference Road Win
The 10th ranked Class 2-A Okoboji Pioneers picked up a road win over a tough West Lyon team on Tuesday night 67-52. Okoboji used another quick start to jump to a 17-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Pioneers would build that lead to 17 in the 2nd quarter but the Wildcats battled back to make it a 34-22 game at the half. Both teams shot the ball well in the 3rd quarter as Okoboji would build the lead to 52-38 entering the final stanza. The Pioneers would increase the lead to 19 in the 4th quarter and cruise for the 15 point victory. Emily Wintz lead Okoboji with 21 points and 8 assists, Megan Peschong added 19 points 6 steals and 7 rebounds while Shaelyn Adams chipped in with 10 points and 4 assists. Molly Mitchell lead Okoboji in rebounds with 12 and also had 4 blocked shots to go along with 9 points. Okoboji improves to 2-0 on the season, with both wins being in conference play. The Pioneers travel to Harris-Lake Park on Thursday to battle the Wolves.
Okoboji boys defeated West Lyon 58-51 to open up their season with a win. Alex Heller 23 points, Jake Dodge 14 points. They travel to HLP Thursday as well on Q 102.
