Okoboji Girls Basketball Gets 1st Win
The Okoboji Pioneers won their home opener on Thursday night over county rival Harris-Lake Park 62-47. Both teams got off to a slow start offensively as Okoboji took a 7-6 lead into the second quarter. H-LP was able to hit some shots in the 2nd frame and took a 20-18 lead into halftime. The Pioneers battled back in the third quarter behind the play of freshmen Kallyn Stumbo, Magan Christopherson and Camry Jones, as the three youngsters helped put Okoboji up 43-33 entering the 4th quarter. The Pioneers would keep the lead at double figures in the final stanza and pull out the 15 point victory. Okoboji was led by Stumbo, who had 25 points, 11 steals, 7 rebounds and 5 assists; fellow freshman Christopherson pitched in with 15 points, 6 assists and 3 steals, while junior Faith Prather brought great energy for Okoboji and finished with 10 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals. The Wolves were led by Taylor Meyer’s 20 points. The Pioneers improve to 1-1 on the season and will hit the road on Friday night for a Siouxland Conference battle with Boyden-Hull on Q 102.
