Okoboji Girls Basketball Clash With Sioux Center
The Class 2A 7th ranked Okoboji Girls remained undefeated on the season giving #5 3A Sioux Center their first loss of the season on Tuesday 62-43. Okoboji lead from the start, jumping out to a 16-4 lead to open the game. Sioux Center would make a 5-0 run at the end of the quarter to cut the lead to 16-9. The Pioneers would extend the lead in the third quarter, holding the Warriors to 4 points as they pushed the lead to 33-13 at the half. Sioux Center would score the first five points of the second half, but Okoboji answered with a 6-0 run and keep a big lead at 47-26 entering the fourth quarter. Okoboji kept the Warriors at a distance in the final quarter never letting the lead dip below 16. The Pioneers had four girls in double figures on the night, lead by Megan Peschong’s 19 points to go along with 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals; Shaelyn Adams added 15 points and 3 assists, going 4-4 from the 3-point line; Molly Mitchell recorded another double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds to go along with 3 blocks; while Emily Wintz added 11 points with 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Brenna McCabe lead the Pioneers with 7 assists on the night. Sioux Center was lead by Lexi Hearld’s 12 points. Okoboji improves to 10-0 on the season and take first place in the Siouxland with a 9-0 mark while Sioux Center fell to 10-1 and 9-1 in the Siouxland.
Sioux Center defeated Okoboji 72-66 in overtime. Alex Heller had 31 points for Okoboji in the loss as Okoboji falls to 2-7 on the season and will travel to George Little Rock Friday.
