Okoboji Girls Basketball Beat Central Lyon
Okoboji won a defensive battle over Central Lyon 44-34 on Thursday night. Both teams looked rusty on offense after a two day break from practice due to the winter storm. Okoboji trailed only one time all night at 6-5 before running off 12 straight points to take a 17-6 lead midway through the second quarter. Central Lyon would close the quarter on a 9-4 run to trim the lead to 21-15 at the break. The defenses continued to be stingy in the third quarter with the Pioneers stretching their lead to 30-20 entering the final stanza. Central Lyon would cut the lead to six several times but could get no closer as Okoboji would make enough defensive plays down the stretch to earn the hard-fought victory despite going only 12-34 from the free throw line. The Pioneers were led by Kallyn Stumbo who finished the night with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists while Camry Jones notched another double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Central Lyon was led by Hope Rasmussen and Elyse Pedersen who each scored 8 points. With the win Okoboji improves to 10-6 overall and 7-6 in the Siouxland Conference while Central Lyon falls to 7-8 overall and 6-7 in the Siouxland. Okoboji will hit the road for a game at Rock Valley on Friday on Y 100.
