Okoboji Basketball Takes Long Road Trip At Rock Valley
The 5th ranked Class 2A Okoboji Pioneers remained unbeaten on the season with a 62-45 win at Rock Valley on Tuesday night. Okoboji would race out to a 9-1 lead but Rock Valley would battle back and cut the lead to 15-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Rockets would go on a 6-0 run to start the 2nd quarter to take the lead at 16-15 but Okoboji would answer and never trail again, outscoring Rock Valley 17-8 to end the half and take a 32-24 lead into the break. Shaelyn Adams hit two three pointers early in the 3rd quarter to get the Pioneers a double digit lead that they held throughout the quarter as they lead 48-35 entering the fourth quarter. Okoboji would continue to build on the lead in the fourth quarter and would keep their distance from the Rockets, outscoring them 14-10 in the final frame to take the 17 point victory. The Pioneers were lead by another double-double for Megan Peschong, as she had 22 points and 10 rebounds to go along with 5 assists; fellow twin tower Molly Mitchell also recorded another double-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds while adding 4 steals and 4 blocks on the night; Shaelyn Adams contributed 12 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists while Emily Wintz added 6 points and 7 rebounds. Rock Valley was led by Sammie Blum’s 17 points. The win pushes the Pioneers record to 17-0 on the season and they remain in first place in the Siouxland Conference with a 14-0 mark. Okoboji will hit the road again on Friday for a game with Boyden-Hull.
In the boys game, Rock Valley started off the 1st quarter on a 17-2 run and never looked back in winning 74-50 over Okoboji. Rock Valley had 3 players in double figures. They were led by Myles Van Maanen with 18 points. They shot 51% from the floor. Okoboji got 18 points from Bryce Peter and 16 from Alex Heller. Rock Valley improves to 7-8 while Okoboji drops to 4-12. Rock Valley travels to MOC-FV Friday. Okoboji travels to Boyden Hull on Y 100 Friday.
