Okoboji Basketball Sweeps George Little Rock
The Class 2A 6th ranked Okoboji Pioneers remained unbeaten on the season with a 49-36 victory at George-Little Rock. Okoboji fought off a slow start to take a 12-6 lead after the first quarter. The Mustangs would cut the lead to one in the 2nd quarter before a Shaelyn Adams 3-pointer and Megan Peschong put back would give the Pioneers a 22-16 lead at the break. Okoboji would push the lead out with some solid defense in the 3rd quarter and take a 37-24 lead into the final quarter. The Pioneers built the lead to 48-28 late in the game before G-LR finished on an 8-1 run to make it a 49-36 final. Okoboji was led by Molly Mitchell who finished the night with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks; Megan Peschong would add in 14 points with 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals while Shaelyn Adams chipped in with 9 points. Mariah Terhark lead G-LR with 16 points. With the win Okoboji improves to 11-0 on the season and remains in first place in the Siouxland Conference with a 10-0 mark. The Pioneers will be back at home on Tuesday taking on the Emmetsburg E’Hawks.
The Okoboji boys basketball team defeated George Little Rock 50 - 43 on the road Friday night in George. Okoboji was down 16-9 after 1 but tied it up at 26 at the half. In the second half, Okoboji took the lead 39-36 after 3 and held on in the 4th quarter to win by 7. Alex Heller had 21 points and Jake Dodge with 10 to lead Okoboji. The Pioneers improve to 3-7 on the season and stop a 7 game losing streak. It is their first win since December 3rd.
