Okoboji Basketball Splits With Sheldon Friday December 4th
The Class 2-A 8th ranked Okoboji Pioneers won their third straight road game over Sheldon on Friday night 59-28. Both teams struggled to score in the first quarter as the Pioneers would take a 9-6 lead into the 2nd stanza. Okoboji would heat things up before halftime and take a 28-16 lead into the break. The Pioneers would open things up in the 3rd quarter with some great defense and take a 45-24 lead into the final quarter, where Okoboji would outscore the Orabs 14-4 for the final margin. The Pioneers were paced by Molly Mitchell’s second double/double of the year as she recorded 16 points, 13 rebounds and added 3 blocked shots. Megan Peschong had another solid game with 8 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Emily Wintz recorded 10 points with 5 assists while Shaelyn Adams chipped in with 8 points and 6 rebounds. Mallory Miler came off the bench to add 6 points for the 4-0 Pioneers. Okoboji forced 28 turnovers on the night while recording an impressive 19 assists. The Pioneers will hit the road again on Tuesday traveling to Rock Rapids to take on 2105 State Participant Central Lyon.
In the night cap, the Okoboji boys started off the game on a 6-0 only to get answered by a Sheldon 12-0 run and the Orabs led 14-10 after 1. They pulled away in the 2nd & 3rd quarter and held on for the 68-52 victory. In the 4th quarter, Okoboji got it down to 10 points at the 4 minute mark but could not get any closer. Okoboji drops their first game of the season. They were led by Alex Heller with 22, Jake Dodge with 12 and Preston Harms with 11. Sheldon had 23 points from Devon Johnson. Sheldon is 1-0, while Okoboji drops to 2-1. The Pioneers will be at Central Lyon Tuesday.
