The Okoboji Girls won their fourth straight game, 59-32 at Sibley-Ocheyedan on Friday night.  The Pioneers took control of the game early with a 10-2 run to start the game and never looked back, building the lead to 14-5 after the first quarter.  The second quarter was much of the same as Okoboji scored the first six points and would take a 28-12 lead into halftime.  The Generals would cut that lead to 12 but could never get closer as the Pioneers ended the quarter on a 14-5 run to stretch the game to 44-23 entering the final quarter.  All 16 Pioneers would play in the final frame as Okoboji would continue to share the ball with 18 total assists on the night, and they stretched the lead to 58-23 before the Generals ended the game on a 9-0 run.  Camry Jones had a big night for Okoboji with 20 points and 12 rebounds; Kallyn Stumbo recorded her second triple-double of the season with 13 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds to go along with 7 steals and Magan Christopherson added 17 points with four three-pointers.  Sibley-Ocheydan was led by Megan Grimes with 14 points.  With the win Okoboji improves to 16-4 overall and they also move into second place in the Siouxland Conference at 13-4.  The Pioneers will finish their regular season at George-Little Rock on Tuesday.

Comments From Coach Adams

“I was very impressed with how unselfish we played tonight. We also guarded extremely well and had several stretches where we were able to go on some big runs to take control of the game.  Sibley-Ocheyedan was coming off a big win last night and we knew they would come out tonight and battle hard. Camry was very good inside offensively, defensively and on the glass.  Kallyn did an excellent job of distributing the ball and also was big on the glass and Magan really got it going in the second half. Our bench was again had phenominal energy and gave us very good minutes.”

Comments From Coach Stumbo

Despite the loss, our boys did a lot of nice things tonight. They played strong and aggressive and got to the free throw line a lot. They also played hard all night and supported one another, and our bench was engaged and brought good focus and energy. We were really proud of them and the character they showed tonight throughout the duration of the game. Give the Sibley-Ocheyedan players and staff credit. Every time we made a run late in the game, they were able to come up with an answer whether it be hitting a shot, grabbing an offensive rebound, getting to the line, or getting a stop. We had some good opportunities tonight and good energy to build off of entering our final week of the regular season.
