Okoboji Basketball Splits With Rock Valley Friday December 11
The Class 2A 7th ranked Okoboji Pioneers improved to 6-0 on the season with a 59-42 victory over Rock Valley. The Pioneers fought foul trouble in the first quarter and trailed at the end of the stanza 11-10. Okoboji would bounce back in the 2nd quarter and take a 25-20 lead into halftime. The 3rd quarter was back and fourth and the Pioneers would take a 39-33 lead into the 4th quarter. Okoboji would open things up early in the final stanza and the lead never got below 11 after the 5:00 mark. Emily Wintz lead the Pioneers with 18 points on the night; Megan Peschong added 16 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assits; Molly Mitchell had another double/double for Okoboji with 10 points, 18 rebounds and also added 3 blocked shots. Shaelyn Adams lead Okoboji with 6 assits and 6 steals and also added 6 rebounds while Mallory Miler chipped in with 8 big points off the bench. Okoboji is now 5-0 in the Siouxland Conference and will take on Boyden-Hull on Tuesday night in Milford.
The Okoboji boys kept it close until the very end but lost to Rock Valley 70-65. The Pioneers drop to 2-3 on the season and 0-3 in the conference and will host Boyden-Hull Tuesday as well in Milford on Q 102.
