Okoboji Basketball Splits With GLR

George-Little Rock edged Okoboji 47-44 in a battle of two ranked girls teams on Friday night in Milford. The Mustangs had the early 14-13 lead after both teams struggled to hold onto the ball in the first quarter. The Pioneers had a 28-27 advantage at halftime. In the third quarter Okoboji's offense went cold and the Pioneers scored just two points. The Mustangs took advantage and led 39-30 going into the final period. Foul trouble and turnovers gave the Pioneers a chance to come back, but Okoboji's woes on offense persisted and G-LR escaped with the victory. Okoboji had 25 turnovers in the contest. G-LR had 22 turnovers. Danielle Eben and Teyha Graham each had 17 for the Mustangs who are now 8-2 (8-2 Siouxland). They face Sheldon next Friday. Okoboji falls to 9-2 (8-2 Siouxland). The Pioneers got 19 from Megan Peschong and 12 from Molly Mitchell. They host West Lyon next Friday. Hear the game on Q102.
Okoboji overcame a slow second quarter on offense and outscored George-Little Rock 41-21 in the second half to earn a 69-53 victory on Friday night in Milford. The Pioneers led 19-14 after one but trailed 32-28 at halftime. It was 50-40 Okoboji after three quarters. Holt Hunziker and Tyler Stumbo each had 16 points. Houston Hawkins scored 14 points, all in the second half thanks to four three pointers. Alex Heller added 11 and Okoboji has now won two of their first three contests in 2015. The Pioneers, 3-7 (2-7 Siouxland) will host West Lyon next Friday. Hear the game on Q102. David Aeikens and Jayden Mauldin each had 17 for GLR. The Mustangs will look for their first win of the season against Sheldon next Friday.
