Okoboji Basketball Splits With Central Lyon
Central Lyon’s defensive pressure kept the Pioneers out of rhythm early on Friday night, but Okoboji battled back to a 12-12 tie at the end of the first quarter and eventually pulled away for a 53-34 win in Rock Rapids. The Pioneers built a 31-18 lead at halftime and 44-24 after three. Both teams struggled at times with turnovers. Okoboji finished with 19, while Central Lyon lost the ball 24 times. Balanced scoring was once again a positive for Okoboji as Darby Jones had 12, Abby Taylor had 10, and Megan Peschong had 9.
The Pioneers are 5-1 (4-1 Siouxland) and host Rock Valley Monday. Central Lyon got 12 out of Sarah Halse and fall to 1-4. They play at Boyden-Hull on Tuesday.
Okoboji dug itself a deep hole in the first half of a Siouxland Conference boys matchup at Central Lyon Friday night and fell 74-47. The Lions had a 20-10 lead after one quarter and 38-20 at halftime. Okoboji had a good third quarter, cutting the lead to 8 midway through the quarter, but Central Lyon responded by with 7 more points and led 53-38 after three. The Lions used their size to get second chance points on offense. Grant Metzger and Nicholas Lutmer both utilized the offensive rebound to get to 17 and 14 points, each respectively. Central Lyon’s Kalen Eckenrod led all scorers with 22. Holt Hunziker once again had a good night for Okoboji with 16 points, including four three pointers. Jacob Dodge and Houston Hawkins each chipped in 8 off the bench.
Okoboji will seek their first win of the season when they host Rock Valley on Monday. Central Lyon (2-3, 1-3 Siouxland) travels to Boyden-Hull on Tuesday.
