Okoboji Basketball Hosts Sibley Ocheyedan
The Okoboji girls, ranked #7 in Class 2A downed Sibley-Ocheyedan 57-28 on Tuesday night in Milford. Okoboji got off to a slow start, but a steal and great move by Emily Wintz at the end of the first quarter ignited the Pioneers and put them up 10-6 heading into the second quarter. The Pioneers would shut out the Generals in the 2nd stanza on their way to a 22-6 halftime lead. Okoboji would continue to guard well in the third quarter and outscored Sibley-Ocheyedan 19-9 to push the lead to 41-15 entering the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter was much of the same as the Pioneers would close things out for the 29 point win. Megan Peschong lead Okoboji with another double/double with 12 points and 15 rebounds to go along with 3 assists; Emily Wintz added 12 points, 3 assists and 3 steals and Shaelyn Adams chipped in with 10 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Molly Mitchell added 8 points with 12 rebounds and 3 blocks and Brenna McCabe lead Okoboji with 7 assists. Sibley-Ocheyedan was lead by Britta Harbert’s 8 points. The Pioneers improve to 9-0 on the season and 8-0 in the Siouxland and will take on undefeated Sioux Center at home on January 5th in a battle for first place.

The Pioneers were up 56-55 after Jake Dodge hit a free throw to put them up by 1 with 5 seconds left 56-55. Sibley Ocheyedan's Grant Brouwer then hit a 2 at the buzzer on the other end to give them the win 57-56. Alex Heller did have 37 points for Okoboji in the loss. Okoboji drops to 2-6 on the season. Sibley Ocheyedan gets their 1st of the season at 1-7.
