Okoboji Basketball Hosts Sheldon Tuesday January 19
The #6 2A Okoboji Pioneers led from start to finish on their way to a commanding 59-26 victory over Sheldon on Tuesday night in Milford. The Pioneers jumped out to a 16-2 lead and never looked back, leading 18-6 at the end of the first quarter. Okoboji would push the lead out to 29-13 at the half. The second half was much of the same, as the Pioneers opened up a large lead and took a 44-20 lead into the final quarter. T he Okoboji defense would continue to be stifling in the 4th quarter, holding the Orabs to single digits in all 4 quarters on their way to the 33 point victory. Molly Mitchell lead the Pioneers with another double-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds and also added 3 blocks; Megan Peschong also added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to go along with 5 assists and 2 blocks; Emily Wintz was also in double figures with 10 points while adding 9 rebounds. Cory Hoffman and Brooklyn Barnett led Okoboji with 3 steals a piece. The Pioneers improved to 15-0 on the season and are 12-0 in the Siouxland Conference. Okoboji will host Central Lyon on Friday night’s Coaches vs. Cancer game.
The Okoboji boys lost to Sheldon 64-52 Tuesday night in Milford. In the losing effort, the Pioneers were led by Alex Heller with 23 points and Bryce Peter with 16. Okoboji falls to 4-10 on the season and will be back in action Friday against Central Lyon.
