Okoboji Basketball Hosts GLR Tuesday Feb. 7
Okoboji ended their regular season on a three game winning streak by beating George-Little Rock 45-32 on Tuesday night. The Pioneers got off to a slow start, falling behind 7-0 before closing the gap to 15-13 at the end of the first quarter. Okoboji would turn up the defensive pressure in the second quarter and take the lead for good with a 9-0 run to take a 22-15 lead that they kept at 26-19 at the half. The Mustangs would never get closer than 7 but the Pioneers could not get much separation in the 3rd frame and would take a 37-30 lead into the final quarter. Okoboji would score the first four points of the quarter and maintain a double digit lead the rest of the way. Freshman Kallyn Stumbo had another double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds to go along with 7 assists and 5 steals; fellow freshman Camry Jones also had a big night with 12 points and 8 rebounds. G-LR was led by Wynona Steenhoven with 8 points. Okoboji finishes the regular season 14-7 and 11-7 in the rugged Siouxland Conference. The Pioneers will host Sibley-Ocheyedan on Saturday night at 7:00 in first round Region Tournament action on Q 102.
