Girls Game

Okoboji fell at MOC-FV 41-34 on Tuesday night. The Dutch took an early 3-2 lead but Okoboji would answer back with a 9-2 run to end the quarter and take an 11-5 lead into the second frame. The Pioneers built that lead to 21-9 behind three pointers from Shayla Baschke and Lynnae Abrahamson but MOC-FV got back in the game with a 6-0 run to end the half and trim the lead to 21-15. Montana Wilson scored the first four points of the third quarter to push the lead back to 10 but Okoboji would struggle to score from there as the Dutch went on a 15-0 run to take a 30-25 lead into the final quarter. Okoboji trimmed the lead to four with 3:00 remaining but couldn’t get any closer as MOC-FV hit their free throws at the end to pull out the victory. Shayla Baschke led the Pioneers with seven points, Montana Wilson had seven rebounds to go with six points and Ella Stoll added six points and four assists. Okoboji falls to 2-11 and MOC-FV improves to 8-7 on the season.

Comments From Head Coach John Adams:

“I loved our effort and fight all game, we just struggled to put the ball in the basket in the third quarter and that affected us on the defensive end when they made their run. With this young of a team I should have called timeout quicker to settle us down. We played well in the fourth quarter but just fouled too much and couldn’t get the lead under four. Give MOC-FV credit for fighting through a rough first half as they had to adjust to playing without their best player. We showed some nice signs of growth and look forward to getting back on the court again to compete on Friday.”

Boys Game

The Pioneers traveled to MOC-FV Tuesday night for another Siouxland Conference matchup.  Both teams competed out of the gate for a 15-15 score at the end of the first.  The Pioneers put together a strong second quarter to take a 41-30 lead going into the half.  MOC-FV came back strong in the 3rd quarter but Okoboji was able to answer and go into the fourth quarter with a 59-48 lead.  Both teams competed to the end but Okoboji hung on for the 76-69 victory.  The Pioneers were led by Will Hoffman's 21 points, Jaden Heller with 20 and Aidan Dahms off the bench with 12.  MOC-FV was led by Luke Korver with 26 points which included seven made three pointers.  Okoboji is now 7-5 and will host Sibley-Ocheyedan Friday.  MOC-FV drops to 5-8.

Comments From Head Coach Ryan Stumbo:

We were proud of how our guys responded tonight after a good week of learning.  We made some good improvements from last game going into tonight and offensively played with good vision and aggressiveness around the hoop, which allowed us to get some rhythm from the outside.  Will Hoffman and Jaden Heller were difference makers for us tonight and played great games.  We will keep working on finding some consistency moving forward.
