Okoboji Baseball Wins Thriller Against To West Lyon

The Okoboji baseball team is going to a sub state baseball game Tuesday night after a come from behind 2-1 walk off victory over West Lyon Saturday night in Hull. The game was scoreless for the first 5 innings. In the top of the 6th, West Lyon scored a run to make it 1-0. In the bottom of the 6th, Okoboji scored a run when Holt Hunziker knocked in Houston Hawkins to tie it at 1. In the bottom of the 7th, Okoboji drew a lead off walk to give them a base runner. After 1 out in the inning, Noah Bouse hit a fly ball deep down the right field line that rolled all the way to the fence, Cris Halbur who was running for Joel Ruiter, was waved home and the ball beat him to the plate but the throw was dropped by the catcher and Cris was safe and Okoboji won 2-1.
The Pioneers scored 2 runs on 7 hits. They were led by Holt Hunziker going 2-3 with an RBI, Aaron Gross was 2-3 and Noah Bouse was 1-3 with an RBI. West Lyon with 1 run on 3 hits with the lone RBI coming from Jaden Snyder. Tanner Oelson, Jordan Van Beek and Logan Bruggeman each had a hit for West Lyon.
The winning pitcher was Houston Hawkins from Okoboji going 7 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits with 8 strikeouts and 3 walks. The losing pitcher was Dylan Whalen from West Lyon with 6 1/3 innings giving up 2 runs on 7 hits with 5 strikeouts and 4 walks.
Okoboji improves to 20-9 and will take on Hinton Tuesday July 21st in Sioux Center for the right to go to state in Class 2A. West Lyon finishes the season at 11-11.
