Okoboji Baseball Falls Short At Substate

The Okoboji baseball team could not get anything going offensively and lost a bid to state baseball by the score of 3-0 to #8 ranked Hinton Tuesday night in Sioux Center.  Hinton struck first scoring 1 run on 2 hits in the 1st inning.  No more scoring until the 5th inning when Logan Jurgensmeier hit a 2 out 2 run homerun to give them insurance runs.  Okoboji had runners at 1st and 3rd with 1 out in the 3rd inning, runner at 3rd base in the 4th inning and a runner at 2nd in the 6th inning but could not push any runs across.


Okoboji with 0 runs on 2 hits.  Matt Eckard and Joel Ruiter each had a hit.  Hinton with 3 runs on just 4 hits.  Skyler Beller was 2-3 and Logan Jurgensmeier was 1-3 with 2 RBI's.  The winning pitcher was Blake Vande Hoef going 5 innings with 0 runs on 1 hit with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk.  The losing pitcher was Matt Eckard with 4 innings and giving up 1 run on 3 hits with 7 strikeouts and 5 walks.  Houston Hawkings came in relief and pitched 2 innings with 2 runs on 1 hit 5 K's and 1 Walk.


Hinton improves to 26-5 and will advance to state.  Okoboji finishes their season at 20-10.
