Okoboji Baseball Advances To A District Final
Okoboji defeated Spirit Lake 8-6 in a Class 2A District 1 semifinal game on Tuesday in Larchwood. The Pioneers led 2-0 after two innings. Spirit Lake then tied it in the bottom of the third. The Indians would get their first lead by scoring three runs in the fourth inning and another in the fifth inning to lead 6-2. Okoboji would respond back in the sixth inning by sending nine batters to the plate and scoring six runs that inning to lead 8-6. Spirit Lake would get no closer than first base the next two innings and Okoboji holds on for the victory.
Okoboji with 8 runs on 12 hits with every batter getting a least one hit. They were led by Jake Halbur going 2-4 with an RBI, Kyle Martin 2-3, Will Jensen 2-4, Zach Fife 1-4 with 3 RBI's and Jay Swygman was 1-4 with a 2 RBI homerun. Swygman started the game as the pitcher and went four innings giving up five runs on five hits in a no decision. The winning pitcher was Kyle Martin. He went three innings and gave up one run on four hits with three strikeouts.
Spirit Lake with 6 runs on 9 hits. They were led by Riley Reynolds going 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored, Max Carney was 1-4 with 2 RBI's, Lawton Kramer was 2-3, Cole Whiting was 2-4 and Isaac Early was 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Lawton Kramer started the game and went five innings giving up six runs (four earned) on ten hits and four strikeouts in a no decision. The losing pitcher was Ben Frostestad going one inning and giving up two runs on two hits.
The Indians finish the season 11-4 and will say goodbye to seniors Cail Donkersloot, Lawton Kramer, Brock Petersen and Ben Frostestad. Okoboji is now 8-5 and will advance to a district final game against West Lyon Saturday night in Larchwood starting at 7 PM on Q 102.
