Northwest Amateur to start Thursday

SPENCER - A field of 384 golfers will compete in the 97th Northwest Amateur Tournament Thursday through Sunday at Spencer Golf and Country Club.

Nine golfers from Spirit Lake are scheduled to play in the tourney: Mason Weeks, 7:10 a.m.; Scot Bauermeister, 7:40 a.m.; Tommy Evans, 12:40 p.m.; Keith Hewitritter, 12:40 p.m.; Trevor Caldwell, 2:30 p.m.; Nick Christensen, 2:30 p.m.; Corey Potter, 2:30 p.m.; Alex Verrips, 12:40 p.m.; and Josh Wolterstorff, 12:40 p.m.

There are five golfers from Milford playing, Will Kretsinger, 7 a.m.; Mike McKinney, 7:50 a.m.; Nick Fear, 12:40 p.m.; Chris Buhr, 1:10 p.m.; and Jason Lorenzen, 1:30 p.m..

Four golfers from Okoboji will be part of two groups, Rick Carlton and Rich Kriener, 7 a.m. Thursday; and Jim Schmidt, 7:10 a.m. and Jeff Thomas, 7:10 a.m. Friday.

Four Estherville golfers are in a group at 7:20 a.m. Thursday, Michael Christensen, Trevor Enerson, Jason Quastad and Jeff Soper. Two more are playing at 2:10 p.m., Tyson Hendrickson and Jason Karsten.

Austin Olson of Jackson has an 8:30 a.m. tee time Thursday. He's in a group with Jackson native Brett Benson, now of Odebolt, Iowa. Jerrod Hansen of Lakefield starts at 12:40 p.m. Thursday.

Two golfers from Welcome have early start times Thursday, with Dawson Weber scheduled to tee off at 7:50 a.m. and Connor Anderson at 8 a.m.

An international golfer won the tournament for the second straight year last year as Jackson Kalz of Adelaide, Australia, shot a 12-under par 168 for the weather-shortened 45-hole tournament.
