Moore transferring to UNI
CEDAR FALLS – Jackson County Central graduate Keegan Moore announced on Twitter Monday that he is transferring to the University of Northern Iowa from Oklahoma State.
After receiving a full release from OSU, he joins his brother, Paden, with the Panthers. Another brother, Cooper, also competed for the Panthers from 2012-17.
Keegan will be a sophomore with three years of eligibility remaining. He is projected to wrestle anywhere from 174 to 197 pounds.
Moore was an NCAA tournament qualifier for the Cowboys this past season, compiling an 18-10 record that included going 0-2 at the national tourney. He was 25-12 in his two years at OSU.
"I just wanted to be closer to home and just felt like that was the best fit for me," he told the Des Moines Register. "Just being around my brother gave me a great level of comfort. I just felt like that’s where I needed to go."
Moore was a three-time state champion at JCC, compiling a record of 227-30. He had 157 falls, which is seventh most in state history.
The three Moore brothers combined to win 693 matches, which is fifth on that list.
UNI was 24th at the NCAA Championships with one all-American. Next season, the Panthers are expected to field a lineup with three all-Americans and another three that could threaten the podium.
"I love the coaching staff at UNI," Moore said. "The Panther Train has some good stuff going. I believe this is where I’m supposed to be."
