Comments From Head Coach Bob O'Hara:

This is a meet that could have gone either way.  But Le Mars for the most part played the big points well tonight.  Hannah Schoning played tremendous match at #1 singles that lasted over two hours.  The difference between her winning and losing were only a few key points.  I can't say enough good things about Hanna's on court attitude and great foot work that she displayed.  She has been everything a coach could ever want from a number one player.  At #2 singles Hailey Johnson fell behind early 1-6, so I think the key for Hailey is to get off to a better start.  Hailey came back to 6-7 but couldn't quite get over the hump.  Ryan Petievich had some great opportunities to win games at #3 singles.  Ryan just wasn't consistent with her first serve and when you live of your second serve you end up playing too much defensive tennis.  At number four Mallory Luers had her best day of the season.  Her court coverage was outstanding and she was moving the ball around the court really well.  At #5 Alison Bueltel really played well.  Alison is getting better every meet and since this is only her second varsity singles match we're looking for Alison to make big strides this season.  At #6 Rebecca Owens played great.  And actually had a couple of match points.  She just had a couple of balls barley sail out.  Had one of them landed in and Rebecca would have been on the winning end of the match.
In doubles we played much better.  At #1 doubles we had a 9-7 lead but just couldn't close the door.  If there is a such thing as a good loss this is it.  Assistant coach Rachel Gerking and I saw a few mistakes that if we clean up will hopefully make a big improvement by allowing us to end points quicker and get the net person more involved.  Hailey and Rebecca played great at #2 doubles.  Rebecca's hard hitting seemed to take Le Mars out of their game.  Hailey was also moving well and kept balls coming back.  And finally at #3 doubles Mallory and Alison played well.  I saw major improvement today with them compared to the conference tournament.  With Alison's aggressive net play she sometimes misses the ball and at the conference tournament it seemed to distract Mallory.  But Mallory seems to adjusted and doesn't seem distracted at all by Alison's aggressive play.
