Lakers sweep ICCAC honors
AMES - Iowa Lakes Community College swept Division II basketball Player of the Week honors in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.
Mia Wassink received the women's honor and Dennis Joiner on the men's side.
Wassink, a 5-foot-10 sophomore from Edgerton, led the Lakers to wins over Southwestern and Little Priest Tribal College as she scored 37 points and grabbed 31 rebounds.
Wassink was 13-for-24 from the field and 11-12 from the free-throw line.
On the season, she's second in the conference in rebounds with 8.8 per game and she's sixth in scoring at 14.8 points per contest.
Joiner scored 48 points for the Laker men in wins over Little Priest Tribal and No. 17 Southwestern.
Both Iowa Lakes teams will host Des Moines Area Wednesday.
For the women's game, DMACC is 6-2 in the conference and 19-6 overall, while Iowa Lakes is 3-5 and 10-14.
Okoboji graduate Molly Mitchell of DMACC, a 6-foot sophomore, leads the ICCAC in rebounds with 9.3 per game and is seventh in scoring with 13.8 points per contest.
The men will follow at about 7:30, with the Lakers 5-2 in the conference and 17-7 overall, while the Golden Bears are 2-5 and 16-8.
