Lakers close out Hawk Classic with wins

NORFOLK, Neb. - The Iowa Lakes Community College basketball teams both picked up wins over Northeast CC Saturday to close out the Hawk Classic.

ILCC won the women's game 78-72 and the men's 96-69.

Shareece Smith (Fort Dodge) had a double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds. Breanna Wendland (Richfield) also scored 20 points.

Safiyer Coleman (Denver Lakewood) posted 15 points and seven rebounds, while Samantha Hagedorn (North Union) scored 10 points.

The Lakers are 3-1 on the season. They'll host Minnesota West at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and the Grand View JV at 1 p.m.Saturday.

The Iowa Lakes men are 4-0 after their 96-69 win.

Four players scored in double figures for ILCC, with Equan Ards (Milwaukee Hamilton) netting 23 points, Kevin Jennings (Grand Prairie, Tex. Bowie) 15, Solomon Clayton (Fort Dodge) 11 and Brandun Robinson (Milwaukee Golda Meier) 10.

Malcolm Clayton (Fort Dodge) led the Lakers in rebounds with nine.

The Lakers will play two games in Marshalltown next weekend, facing Highland Community College at 3 p.m. Friday and Gateway Prep at 3 p.m. Saturday.
