Lakers back up to 10th in ratings
ESTHERVILLE - Iowa Lakes Community College has moved back up two places in this week's National Junior College Athletic Association Division II men's basketball ratings.
The Lakers are 25-5 overall and finished 11-3 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference play.
Three other ICCAC teams are ranked, with DMACC (26-4) fifth, Kirkwood (23-5) ninth and NIACC (23-6) 12th.
ILCC was seeded third for the NJCAA Division II Region XI tournament.
The Lakers will host sixth-seeded Ellsworth at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Iowa Lakes won both regular-season meetings, 95-59 on Saturday in Iowa Falls and 87-70 on Jan. 25 in Estherville.
The Lakers are ranked first nationally in three-point field goal percentage at 43.6 percent.
Justin Brookens, a 5-foot-9 sophomore from Milwaukee Vincent, is second in indiviudual three-point percentage with 52.3 percent. He's averaging 19.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per contest.
Three other Lakers average in double figures, with Keshawn Pegues (Davenport Central) averaging 12.8 points per game, Malcolm Clayton (Fort Dodge) 12.0 points per contest and Boston Grimes (Johnston) 10.7 points.
Pegues leads the Lakers in rebounding at 8.9 per contest.
"I'm really proud of our guys and how they compete all year," ILCC coach Troy Larson said. "We play one of the toughest schedules in the country to get us a ready for this week, and I’m looking forward to coaching our team as we compete for a regional championship."
