Laker softball team wins two
CLERMONT, Fla. - The Iowa Lakes Community College softball team evened its record at 5-5 on the season with two wins Monday.
ILCC started the day with a 17-0 win over Silver Lake College of the Holy Family and the Lakers then won 7-6 over Cuyahoga Community College.
In the opener, Yasmine Nix (Coachella, Calif.) pitched two hitless innings while walking four. Bibiana Rosales (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) went the remaining three innings, allowing one hit and striking out six.
Kacie Salazar (Bakersfield, Calif.) was 2-for-3 with a home run, scored three runs and had four runs batted in.
Leilani San Pedro (Redlands, Calif.), Gabby Heckard (Estherville) and Montanna Popp (Adel) each had two hits.
Julia Sullwold (Totino-Grace) picked up the win in the second game for the Lakers as she moved her record to 2-0. Sullwold pitched the final three and one-third innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits. Nix pitched the first three and two-third innings for the Lakers, allowing three earned runs on three hits.
Kaitlin Walsh (Medford, Wis.) was 3-4 with a home run and two runs batted and scored a run.
San Pedro was 2-3 with two RBI, two runs scored, and a homer. Laurie Custard (Des Moines East) was also 2-3.
The Lakers will play three games Tuesday, facing Mott Community College at 8 a.m., South Suburban College at 10 a.m. and the Ripon College JV at 6 p.m.
