Laker outfielder is preseason all-American
ESTHERVILLE - Sophomore outfielder Leilani San Pedro has been named as a first-team selection on the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Preseason All-American team by Fastpitch News.
She is the daughter of James San Pedro and Samantha Gutierrez from Redlands, Calif.
In 2017, San Pedro had a batting average of .500 in 40 games for the Lakers, tying the freshman record at the school.
She had 84 hits that included 21 doubles, two triples and 11 home runs. She scored 69 runs and had 53 runs batted in. San Pedro had an on-base percentage of .543 and a slugging percentage of .845. She was named to the second team all-Region XI.
San Pedro was one of two Iowa Community College Athletic Conference players named to the first team, joining Molly Jacobson of Des Moines Area Community College.
Iowa Lakes will open its season at Southeast Community College in Beatrice, Neb. on Friday, March 2.
