Laker golfers win home invite
ARNOLDS PARK - The Iowa Lakes Community College men's golf team claimed its first team victory of the spring season Monday as the Lakers won their own Spring Invitational at Emerald Hills Golf Club.
ILCC and Des Moines Area Community College both posted a 300, with the Lakers winning on the fifth-score tiebreaker.
"The guys finally cracked through into the winner's circle after playing some pretty solid golf this spring", said Iowa Lakes coach Jarvis Weber. "We have been playing really well but just haven't quite gotten over that hump, but today they got to taste of a win and they did it in a true team way, which I could not be happier with."
Aaron James led Iowa Lakes with a one-over par 73 to place second, one shot behind NIACC's Ben Boerjan's tournament low of 72.
Morgan Edwards tied for sixth with a 75, Trace Jacobson and Cameron Maxwell tied for ninth with 76s and Carlton Rahn tied for 14th with a 79.
"The boys have been playing some very good golf this spring, but I think this is exactly what they needed to give them that last little push of momentum towards the regional tournament," Weber said. "Going out and beating a very talented DMACC team, even by a scorecard playoff, is going to be huge for their confidence and swagger as we get ready for Veenker."
Iowa Lakes will play in the Region XI tournament at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames May 5-6.
