Laker golfers second at Simpson Spring Invite
NORWALK - Iowa Lakes Community College's men's golf team placed second at the Simpson Spring Invitational Tuesday at The Legacy Golf Club.
The Lakers posted their lowest score of the spring with a 309, six shots behind Southwestern's 303.
Sterling McIlravy (Solon) was low for ILCC with a three-over par 75, taking second place individually. Southwestern's Jesper Holke-Farnham claimed medalist honors with an even-par 72.
"I have been preaching all spring to these guys to be patient but persistent and they will start to see results," said Iowa Lakes coach Jarvis Weber. "The weather has been less than ideal and it has been difficult to get into a true rhythm, but they are finally starting to see what all of their hard work in the off season is doing.
"These guys were able to go out to a good golf course in windy, cold conditions and post a very respectable score today, and it was nowhere near their full potential as a team. Once they get into a rhythm and start to get all the pieces together, they will really start to get results."
Also for the Lakers, Cameron Maxwell (South O'Brien) shot a 77, Aaron James (Sunbury, Australia) 78, Morgan Edwards (Reading, England) 79, and Carlton Rahn (Clarinda) 80.
The Iowa Lakes men and women will be back in action Friday at Lake Panorama National in Panora for the Region XI Spring Preview.
