Iowa Lakes Womens Golf Team Sends Golfer To Nationals
The Iowa Lakes women’s golf team wrapped up play at the Region 11 championships Saturday in Ankeny, IA at Otter Creek Golf Course. In windy and rainy conditions the tournament was cut short to a 27 hole event.
For the Lakers They were led by Ashton Connelly who finished tied for 13th place shooting a 140 through 27 holes. Taylor Knight shot a 141 through 27 holes to finish in 18th place. Kelley Harris came in with a 149 to finished in 23rd place.
Connelly’s 13th place finished put here in a 5 player playoff for 3 of the remaining spots to go to the National Tournament in Daytona Beach, FL. On the first hole Connelly made bogey to secure her spot to go to the 2016 NJCAA Women’s National Golf Tournament.
“I’m very proud of how the women fought the elements. I first want to say thank you to Kelley she was our only sophomore and always works hard in the class room and on the golf course. She has a bright future ahead of her. A huge congrats to Ashton for persevering after a tough 9 holes today to mentally refocus and get the job done in the playoff. This is a great group of women.” Said coach Soper.
Next action for the Laker women will be at the NJCAA Women’s National Golf Tournament in Daytona Beach, FL. Tournament will run May 16th through the 19th.
