Northwest Iowa Teams Compete at State AAU Dual Team Tournament

Wrestlers from Northwest Iowa again represented their district well at the AAU State Dual Team Tournament. Held in Wells Fargo Arena, wrestlers were tapped to participate on the teams based off of their individual performance at the district’s state qualifying tournament held in Spencer. The Dual Team Tournament pits Iowa’s eight districts against each other in a team format, giving the young athletes across the region the opportunity and the experience of wrestling in a competitive team format. Northwest Iowa came close to again sweeping the championships in all divisions but fell just short. The A and C divisions brought home championship trophies while the B division came up just short with a 3rd place finish.

In the A division (3rd and 4th grade) pool duals, Northwest Iowa beat the Southwest District 39-33, the East District 73-14, and the Northeast District 54-32. In their placing dual, Northwest Iowa dominated the North Central District 58-22. This team also had the most pins in the least amount of time, recording 16 pins on the day.

In the B division (5th and 6th grade), Northwest Iowa defeated the Northeast District 45-39 and the East District 55-28, and lost to the South Central District 60-33 in the pool duals. In their 3rd place dual, Northwest Iowa defeated the Southeast District 52-41.

In the C division (7th and 8th grade) pool duals, the Northwest District dominated each team they faced, scoring 373 match points and recording 32 pins on the day. In pool play, they defeated the Mid East District 79-28, the Southwest District 87-27, and the East District 84-29. In their championship dual, Northwest Iowa capped their perfect day by beating the South Central District 81-31. The Northwest Iowa C team kept their champion streak alive and have won this event since its inception three years ago.
