Indians Bounce Back With Victory Over Spencer
Spirit Lake shut down Spencer’s offense and had plenty of their own in a 28-10 victory over the Tigers on Friday night in Class 3A District 1 Football. The Tigers connected first off a 28 yard field goal by Chris Miller with 7:56 to go in the first quarter. The Indians responded with a two yard touchdown run by Brock Tvedte. After a missed extra point, the Indians quickly recovered a fumble by Spencer and scored two plays later off a seven yard touchdown run by Dawson Ahrenstorff. A two point conversion made it 14-3 Spirit Lake with 3:40 to go in the first quarter. Spirit Lake would threaten again in the second quarter but Michael Storey came up with two interceptions to halt the Indian drives. Spencer would also drive to the Spirit Lake 16 yard line but turn the ball over on downs. In the third quarter, Spirit Lake scored right away off a seven yard touchdown run by Matthew Moody and later added a 32 yard touchdown catch by Frankie Ramos to extend the lead to 28-3. Spencer would finally get into the end zone with 9:17 to go in the fourth quarter thanks to a five yard touchdown run by Dylan Holst. The Indians finished with 431 yards of total offense compared to 208 for Spencer. The Tigers would lead in the ground game with 210 yards to Spirit Lake’s 164, but the Indians had 267 passing yards compared to –2 yards for Spencer. Moody had 14 carries for 119 yards for the Indians. Nick Christensen was 24-for-33 passing for 267 yards with a touchdown pass and two interceptions. Ramos had nine receptions for 81 yards an a touchdown catch. Spirit Lake is 3-1 (1-1 District). They are at Algona next week. Hear the game on KUOO. Spencer was led by Dylan Holst’s 19 carries for 112 yards and a touchdown. The Tigers are 2-2 (1-1 District). They host Sergeant Bluff-Lufton on Friday.
