ILCC women, men both top Minnesota West
ESTHERVILLE - Both the Iowa Lakes Community College women's and men's basketball teams defeated Minnesota West by 30 points in nonconference play Saturday.
The Lakers won the women’s game 95-65, led by Breanna Wendland (Richfield) with 24 points. Shareece Smith (Fort Dodge) scored 19 points and Beth Rehse (OABCIG) 17.
Lexie Ramsey (Rock Rapids) led the Lady Jays with 16 points. Emily Wilkie (LeSueur-Henderson) scored 12 points and Alanna Goetzinger (Chatfield) 10.
Melissa Brandt (Jackson County Central) had nine points and nine rebounds for Minnesota West.
The ILCC women are 6-2, while Minnesota West is 1-4.
In the men's game, Iowa Lakes had six players score in double figures in a 109-79 win.
Kevin Cook (Milwaukee Bay View) led the Lakers with 19 points. He was followed by Keshawn Pegues (Davenport Central) with 16, Boston Grimes (Johnston) with 15, Justin Brookens (Milwaukee Vincent) with 14, and Alan Kikwaki (Brussels, Belgium) and Xavier Evans (Milwaukee Lutheran) with 13 apiece.
Minnesota West was led by Jaimon Cheek (Waldorf, Maryland) with 14 points.Christophe Bwanya (Sioux Falls) scored 13 and Jacquez Stoudemire (Montgomery, Ala.) 11.
Coach Larson had this to say about the game,"We came put played with great energy and it allowed us to get off to a good start. Our guys competed hard for most of the game and we can get better when we do that."
The Lakers have won six straight and have a 6-2 record, while the Bluejays had a three-game winning streak stopped and are 3-1.
Both Iowa Lakes teams will host the Northwestern College JV Monday. The Minnesota West women host Ellsworth at 7 p.m. Tuesday, while the men are idle until entertaining Northland on Dec. 6.
