ILCC softball team wraps up Florida trip
CLERMONT, Fla. - The Iowa Lakes Community College softball finished its spring break trip to Florida with two wins Friday, beating Cuyahoga Community College 11-3 in six innings and Niagara County Community College 13-1 in five innings.
The Lakers were 6-6 on the trip and are now 9-9 overall.
In the Cuyahoga game, ILCC compiled 14 hits including an inside the park home run by sophomore Kaitlin Walsh (Medford, Wis.). Walsh had four runs batted in.
Julia Sullwold (Totino-Grace) had three hits and two runs batted in and scored twice.
Laurie Custard (Des Moines East) had three hits plus a sacrifice fly and Montanna Popp (Adel) also had three hits.
Yasmine Nix (Coachella, Calif.) got the pitching win for Iowa Lakes as she evened her record at 1-1. She pitched all six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits, walking one and striking out five.
Vs. Niagara, Walsh had four more hits, all doubles. She had four RBI.
Kacie Salazar (Bakersfield, Calif.), Leilani San Pedro (Redlands, Calif.) and Gabby Heckard (Estherville Lincoln Central) each had two hits for the Lakers.
Bibiana Rosales (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) was the winning pitcher as she gave up one run in two innings, allowing one hit, walking one, hitting one and one striking out one. Naomi Tolmachoff (Goodyear, Ariz.) pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit.
Iowa Lakes is scheduled to play the Morningside JV Wednesday in Sioux City.
