ILCC golfers play in DMACC event

Wed 10-7-2020

AMES - Both Iowa Lakes Community College golf teams competed in the DMACC Fall Invite at Ames Golf and Country Club.

The Laker women finished fourth place with a team score of 368.

Leading the way for ILCC was sophomore Kelly Winter (Maquoketa Valley) with an 89.

"The team as a whole had some really strong stretches, but then would have some inexcusable laps of judgement and focus and it prevented them from posting scores they are capable of," said Iowa Lakes coach Jarvis Weber. "This team has the talent, it's just a matter of bringing it all together for 18 holes."

Freshman Gretchen Hofstad (Emmetsburg) closely followed her teammate with a round of 91, Abby Gaudian (Hudson) came in with a 93 and Isabella Santistevan (Bigfork, Mont.) carded a 95 to finish up the team's counting scores.

Freshman Somer Hudson (Emmetsburg) posted a 96 for a team non-counting score, and Madilyn Shandorf (Bigfork, Minn.) also posted a 96 as an individual.

The ILCC men bounced back from a previous poor showing at the Simpson Invite with a third-place finish with a 307 total.

Leading the way for the Lakers were freshmen Scott Flatebo (Jackson County Central) and Jake Hemann (Rogers) with scores of 76 in very tough, windy conditions.

"The boys were challenged after the Simpson Invite, and I think they took it very personal and wanted to prove that they were much better than 326," said coach Weber. "They came ready today and posted a solid score. From a coaching perspective, that is a huge step in the right direction, but they still left strokes out there and we will continue to work to get those back."

Sophomore Dawson Weber (Martin County West) was close behind with a 77 and freshman Sam Miller (Westwood) posted a 78 to round out the counting team scores. Ben Tibken (CAM0 posted an 84 as team non-counting score, while Blake Johnson (Zimmerman) shot 88 as an individual.

The Iowa Lakes men will try to defend their Quad Cup title on Sunday at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames before finishing up the season at the True North Fall Shootout at Finkbine on the Oct. 15.

The Laker women will look to cap off their fall season at the Grand View Fall Invitational on Oct. 19-20 at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny.
