ILCC baseball splits with Southwestern
CLARINDA – Iowa Lakes Community College split a pair of baseball games with Southwestern Sunday. The Spartans won the opener 5-2, with the Lakers taking the nightcap 8-0.
Martin Eckard (Victoria, British Columbia) took the loss in the first game for the Lakers, going five and two-third innings, allowing five runs (four earned) and striking out nine.
Tavan Shahidi (Ames) had an RBI single and Spencer Larson (Eden Prairie) had a sacrifice fly for ILCC.
In the second game, Zach Meyer (Omaha) pitched six scoreless innings, allowing three hits, walking two and striking out eight. Martin Gonzalez (Waukesha, Wis.) came on in relief to close the door by pitching a scoreless bottom half of seventh inning.
Tyrese Mitchell (Milwaukee) had two hits, while Luis Cintron (Yabucoa, Puerto Rico) had an RBI single and also brought in a run with a bases-loaded walk.
Iowa Lakes is 6-8 on the season. The Lakers open Iowa Community College Conference play vs. Ellsworth on March 24-25.
