HMS Softball Splits With South O'Brien

Wed 6-15-2016

Game 1

It took nine innings, but Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn got by South O’Brien 9-6 in War Eagle Conference softball on Wednesday night.  The game was the first of a double header and a conference game as well for the two rivals.  South O’Brien was the home team as it was a makeup of a rained out contest from earlier this season.  The Hawks got two runs in the first and two runs in the third.  The Wolverines got a run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and tied it up in the bottom of the seventh to force extras.  Neither team got a run in the eighth, but HMS scored five in the top of the ninth off four hits and a South O’Brien error.  The Wolverines would not go quietly in the bottom of the inning, scoring two runs off an error and a sacrifice, but it wasn’t enough to come back.

Tristan Haag led the Hawks at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored.  She had a two RBI triple in the ninth.  Amanda Recher was 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored.  Kalyn Kuchel was the winning pitcher for HMS. S he pitched all nine innings, giving up six runs, two earned, on seven hits, eight strikeouts, and four walks.  South O’Brien was led by Katelyn Tewes.  She was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a RBI.  Bailey Tjossem was the losing pitcher.  She gave up nine runs, eight earned, on 10 hits, eight strikeouts, a walk, and four hit batters.
