HMS Softball Slugs Out Win Over HLP
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn out-slugged Harris-Lake Park 20-11 in War Eagle Conference Softball on Wednesday night in Lake Park. The Wolves took an early 2-0 lead after one, only to see the Hawks score six in the top of the second. HLP responded with five of their own in the bottom half of the inning to go up 7-6. HMS added three in the fourth, four in the fifth, two in the sixth, and five more in the seventh to put the game out of reach. The Wolves would score a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings and two in the seventh, but it wouldn't be enough. Hannah Jochims was 5-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs and three runs scored. Brynn Weber was 3-for-5 with a three run home run and five RBIs. Trey Haag got the win on the mound for the Hawks pitching all seven innings. She gave up the 11 runs on 12 hits, striking out five and walking two. HMS improves to 3-8. They host LeMars Gehlen on Friday. Mady Brevik was 3-for-5 for the Wolves with two runs scored. She took the loss on the mound, pitching the first five innings. She gave up 13 runs on 15 hits, striking out four while walking two. Grave Iverson pitched in the final two innings. She gave up seven runs on six hits, striking out three and walking five. HLP falls to 3-8. They travel to Remsen St. Mary's on Friday.
