HMS Basketball Takes 2 From HLP
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn survived a late rally by Harris-Lake Park to pick up a 49-46 victory on Tuesday night in Lake Park. The Wolves led 14-8 after one and 22-18 at halftime. HMS used a big third quarter to take a 37-27 lead into the final frame. The Wolves trimmed that lead to two with under 30 seconds to go, but the Hawks held on for the win. Olivia Japenga led all scorers with 23 for HMS. Erin Streit added 15 points as the Hawks improve to 3-4. They travel to South O’Brien on Thursday. Jazmin Voehl led the Wolves with 15 points. Taylor Meyer had 14 as HLP drops to 2-7. They are off for the Christmas break.
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn saw a double digit lead slip away but survived in Lake Park to pick up a 65-60 win over Harris-Lake Park on Tuesday night. The Hawks led 16-12 after one and stretched that lead to 35-23 at halftime. The Wolves cut the lead to 11 at 50-39 after three and got as close as three in the fourth quarter. HMS had three scorers in double figures. Cade Schiphoff had 15. Ivan Abonce added 14 while Tyler Rowe chipped in 12. HMS is 4-2 and finishes up their pre-Christmas schedule at South O’Brien on Thursday. HLP was led by Trevor Gunderson's 15 points. Bret Sohn added 13 while Bryce Perkins scored 10 for the Wolves, who drop to 3-5. They are off for the Christmas break.
