HMS Basketball Sweeps RSM
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn picked up a 40-33 win over Remsen St. Mary's in War Eagle Conference play on Friday night in Hartley. There wasn't much offense in the first half with HMS leading 9-4 after one quarter and stretching the lead to 17-4 at halftime. St. Mary's would outscore HMS 21-8 in the third quarter to tie things up at 25 entering the final period. HMS then settled down and got some steals to win the final quarter 15-8 and improve to 4-2. HMS got 15 from Regan Shockley. She had four steals in the contest. Claire Solsma had 10 for HMS. They had 20 turnovers as a team compared to 30 for St. Mary's. They play at Alta Aurelia on Saturday in non-conference play. St. Mary's was led by Haley Delperdang with 16. Paige Willman had six steals for RSM. St. Mary's is still searching for it's first win at 0-6.
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn won an exciting War Eagle Conference boys basketball game over Remsen St. Mary's 52-47 on Friday night. HMS led at all breaks: 13-8 after one, 22-21 at halftime, 28-26 after three. HMS had three players in double figures. Jordan Japenga has 17 points including five three pointers. Daniel Heitritter had 12 while Owen Coburn added 10. Brian Perez had four steals. HMS is 5-0 and at Alta-Aurelia on Saturday. Nicholas Ruden had a game high 25 for St. Mary's who falls to 3-3.
