HMS Basketball Sweeps HLP Tuesday December 1st
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn swept Harris-Lake Park in high school basketball on Tuesday night in Hartley. The Hawks took the girls game 66-31. Turnovers were a big factor in the game as HLP had 26 compared to 13 for HMS. Regan Shockley helped forced several of those turnovers for the Hawks and made the most of several fast break opportunities in a 29 point performance to lead all scorers. Claire Solsma added 14 for HMS who is now 1-1. The Hawks play at Remsen St. Mary's on Friday. Katherin Ihnen led the Wolves with 13. In the boys game, HMS raced out to a 14-2 lead after one quarter and never looked back for a 70-31 victory over HLP in both schools' season openers. The Hawks hit 10 three pointers in the contest. Daniel Heitritter led all scorers with 15. Brian Perez had 13 and Jordan Japenga pitched in 11 for HMS, who starts the year at 1-0. The Hawks play at Remsen St. Mary's on Friday. 18 turnovers were a problem for the HLP offense which was led by Jordan Kyle's nine points. The Wolves (0-1) host Okoboji on Thursday.
