HMS Basketball Hosts Hinton
A cold fourth quarter offensively kept Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn from catching Hinton as the Blackhawks picked up a 60-42 War Eagle Conference win over the Hawks on Tuesday night in Hartley. Hinton led 20-19 after one quarter and 28-25 at halftime. HMS took the lead in the third quarter but the Blackhawks rebounded and led 42-25 after three quarters. Kailey Burke had an impressive offensive performance for Hinton with a game high 35 points. Kelly Gleason added 14 for the Blackhawks, who are now 7-7. HMS got 18 from Regan Shockley and fall to 7-4. The Hawks are at Trinity Christian on Friday.
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn overcame a slow first quarter and held off several runs by Hinton to pick up a 73-67 win on Tuesday night in War Eagle Conference play. The Blackhawks led 18-10 after one quarter. HMS then got hot from beyond the arc and took a 37-33 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Hawks increased the lead to 51-46 after three quarters. In the fourth quarter Hinton got as close as four, but HMS held on for the win. Brian Perez led the Hawks with 24 points. He had three treys and was 7-for-7 at the charity stripe. Jordan Japenga had 22 points. He hit six three pointers and was 4-for-4 at the free throw line. HMS is now 8-2. They play at Trinity Christian on Friday. Hinton falls to 8-4. Jay Small led the Blackhawks with a game high 32 points. He hit six three pointers in the contest. Andrew Hasselquist added 16.
