HLP Softball Gets By HMS

Harris-Lake Park edged Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 2-1 in War Eagle Conference softball in Hartley on Wednesday night. The Wolves scored two quick runs in the top of the first off two hits and an error by the Hawks. HMS got their only run in the sixth. Kenna Rieck hit a double and later scored when Macin Harvey singled to center and the center fielder then bobbled the ball.


Mady Brevik was the winning pitcher for HLP. She gave up just one run on seven hits and two walks. She struck out nine in the contest. Kiersten Carpenter was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI for the Wolves who improve to 12-10 and host Storm Lake St. Mary's in the opening round of the Class 1A Region 1 softball tournament on Monday. Hear the game on Q102 at 7pm. Krista Orthmann was the losing pitcher for the Hawks. She gave up just two runs (one earned) on four hits and no walks. She struck out four. Offensively, Megan Kroese was 2-for-3 for HMS. Rieck was 1-for-3 with a run scored. The Hawks are 13-9. They host Remsen St. Mary's on Friday for their regular season finale.
