HLP Basketball Splits With Unity Christian

Unity Christian showed why they are ranked first in Class 2A as the Knights cruised to a 67-22 win over Harris-Lake Park on Friday night. Unity led 24-4 after one quarter, 40-10 at halftime, and 53-13 after three quarter. Chandra Zomermaand led all scorers for Unity with 16 points including four three pointers. Kassidy De Jong had 14 points while Anna Kiel added 12. The Knights are 14-0 and travel to Class 2A #13 Hinton on Tuesday in a matchup that will likely decide who wins the War Eagle Conference girl's title this season. HLP's Katherin Ihnen had a hard earned 13 points in the contest as the Wolves fall to 5-10. They play at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on Tuesday. Hear the game on Q102.
Harris-Lake Park saw a 10 point halftime lead evaporate in the third quarter, but the Wolves rebounded in the fourth quarter to pick up a 54-45 win over Unity Christian on Friday night in Lake Park. HLP led 11-5 after one quarter and 30-20 at halftime as Unity Christian started the game with cold shooting. The third quarter was a different story though. Unity Christian forced some turnovers and the Wolves could not connect from outside as the Knights took a 35-34 lead going into the final stanza. HLP tied the contest at 40 a couple minutes into the fourth and then got a spark from Dahlton Burdorf. He scored eight of his 21 points in less than two minutes to put the Wolves in the lead for good. Burdorf had four treys in the contest. Jordan Kyle added 16 points for HLP as the Wolves improve to 7-7. They play at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on Tuesday. Hear the game on Q102. For Unity Christian, it was balanced scoring with Travis Huizenga and Klay Byker each having nine points. The Knights are 5-9 and play at Hinton on Tuesday.
