Girls Game

Marcus-Meridan-Cleghorn built an early lead over Harris-Lake Park and held on late to pick up a 53-38 win over the Wolves on Monday night in War Eagle Conference basketball.  The Eagles used turnovers to build a 19-10 lead after one quarter.  They stretched the lead to 25-14 at halftime and 40-22 after three quarters.  In the fourth quarter, the Wolves had the lead down to 13 with the ball but missed an open three and saw their chances for a comeback fall short.  Sarah Dreckman and Alison Meehan each had 14 for the Eagles.  Ashley Hurd chipped in 11 and MMC is now 10-2.  They host Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on Tuesday.  HLP got 10 from both Nichole Rowe and Katherin Ihnen.  They host Remsen St. Mary's on Tuesday.

Harris-Lake Park used a late surge to pull away from a pesky Marcus-Meridan-Cleghorn squad and pick up a 59-47 win on Monday night in Marcus.  The Wolves had the early 9-2 lead but MMC tied it up at 11 after one quarter.  MMC took a 26-25 lead at halftime.  In the third quarter, the lead went back-and-forth with both teams tied at 38 heading into the final stanza.  HLP hit a couple of key threes and made their free throws down the stretch to earn their sixth win of the season and get back to .500.  Jordan Kyle paced the Wolves with 20 points including four three pointers.  Brady Van Iperen added 11 and the Wolves will host Remsen St. Mary's on Tuesday.  Jake Hunter led balanced scoring for the Eagles with 10.  They are 1-10 and host Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on Tuesday.
