HLP Baseball Outlasts HMS
Harris-Lake Park survived a seventh inning rally by Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn and picked up a 6-3 win on Wednesday night in Lake Park. The Hawks got a couple of hits but failed to bring a run across in the top of the first. Harris-Lake Park took a three run lead in the bottom of the first off four hits including two doubles and an HMS error. The Hawks got a run back in the top of the third and then both teams were silent until the bottom of the fifth. HLP got a run on a couple more hits to lead 4-1 going into the sixth. The Wolves added two more in the bottom of the sixth off a couple more hits and an HMS error. HMS scored two runs in the top of the seventh and had base runners at second and third with the tying run at the plate, but Braeton Nitzschke got a strike out to end the game. Nitzschke picked up the win on the mound. He pitched all seven innings, giving up three runs on eight hits, striking out seven while walking four. At the plate, Jordan Kyle was 3-for-4 with a run scored. Zach Heikens was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Bryce Perkins was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. HLP improves to 10-6. Ivan Abonce was 3-for-4 with a RBI to lead HMS offensively. David Conway was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. DJ Lode took the loss. He pitched six innings, giving up six runs on eight hits, striking out five while walking four. The Hawks are 4-18. HLP will host CCE on Friday. HMS is off until July 12th when they open up postseason play at HLP.
