H-LP Softball Defeats Unity Christian
Harris-Lake Park beat Unity Christian in a high scoring 17-7 game in Lake Park on Wednesday night. Unity led 2-1 after one inning. HLP took a 5-1 lead after two innings and then outscored the Knights by five runs to lead 11-3 after three. The Wolves added two more runs in the fourth and appeared to be in route to an early finish but the Knights weren't done. They scored four runs in the fifth to cut the lead to 13-7, but could get no closer. HLP would add a run in the bottom of the fifth and three runs in the sixth to end the contest an inning early. Katherine Ihnen was the winning pitcher for HLP. Zayda Elbuytari was 3-for-4 with three runs scored for HLP. Morgan Bradley was 3-for-4 with a home run. Taylor Meyer was 3-for-4 with a run scored. Peyton Meyer was 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Kiersten Carpenter had a two run homer to end the game for HLP, who is 1-0. They host Sioux Central on Thursday. Tessa Schoonhoven was 1-for-2 with two walks and three runs scored for Unity Christian. The Knights are 0-1 and play at LeMars Gehlen Catholic on Friday.
