GT/RA Football Defeats H-LP
Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayshire erased an early 12-0 deficit and ran away from Harris-Lake Park 58-19 on Friday in 8 Player, District 2 football on Friday night. Each team traded punts to start the game and GTRA's defense held HLP on fourth and goal midway through the first quarter. The Titans would go three and out and botch the punt, giving the Wolves good field position. Thor Larson scored on a 16 yard run to put HLP up 6-0 with 2:34 to go in the first. After another three and out for GTRA, HLP again found the endzone thanks to a 58 yard touchdown run by Larson. Dahlton Burdorf recovered a fumble for HLP on the next Titans possession but the tide then turned in GTRA's favor. Marcus Girres came up with a 50 yard interception for a touchdown to make the score 12-8. Larson then suffered a leg injury for HLP and the Wolves punted. GTRA took the lead three minutes later on a Michael Girres three yard touchdown. The Titans scored two more times before halftime. Mason McGrauth ran it in from three yards out and Marcus Girres had a 39 yard touchdown catch.
In the third quarter, McGrauth caught a 64 yard touchdown to make the score 39-12. HLP responded with a 10 yard touchdown run by Ryan Gembler, but GTRA put it out of reach for good with a 44 yard touchdown run by Michael Girres, a 55 yard touchdown run by Tyler Hoffman, and a 50 yard touchdown run by Michael Girres.
Michael Girres had 21 carries for 203 yards. Hoffman had seven carries for 105 yards. The Titans had over 500 yards of offense in the game. Daniel Moyer had four sacks and a fumble recovery for GTRA, who improves to 7-1 (5-1 District). They travel to Remsen St. Mary's next Friday and have secured a playoff spot. Despite the injury, Larson led HLP with 10 carries for 127 yards. The Wolves fall to 4-4 (3-3 District). They host Laurens-Marathon next Friday in a game you can hear on Q102. If HLP wins, they will be in the playoffs.
