Okoboji recap:

The Okoboji Girls won their sixth straight game on Friday night 61-46 over George-Little Rock.  The Pioneers once again took control of the game early with a 7-0 run to start the game and took a 14-8 lead into the second quarter.  Okoboji built the lead to 20-8 before the Mustangs went on a 13-6 run to trim it to 26-21; but Kallyn Stumbo drained a 3 at the end of the quarter to put the Pioneers up 29-21 at half.  Okoboji came out and picked up the defensive pressure in the 3rd quarter, going on a 15-5 run to take control of the game that helped push the lead to 48-33 entering the fourth quarter.  Okoboji built that lead to 20 at 55-35 early in the fourth and the Mustangs would never get closer than 15 the rest of the way.  The Pioneers were led by Grace Wintz who had 15 points and 7 rebounds; Kallyn Stumbo added 14 points to go along with 7 assists and 4 steals and Camry Jones dominated the paint with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  George-Little Rock was led by Mackensie Post’s 17 points.  Okoboji heads into the break with an 8-3 overall and 6-3 Siouxland Conference record.

Comments from Coach John Adams

“We were worried about the energy we’d have this game after a long week of finals and with quite a bit of illness going around our team, but the girls came out and found a way to get the job done.  Grace Wintz had a tremendous game and made some big time moves; Camry Jones was also dominant in the paint and got us going early with 10 first half points. Kallyn was great again as she had to stay patient with G-LR playing a box and one on her and she picked her time when to be aggressive and when to let her teammates take over. The great thing when teams want to do that is our other girls are really stepping up.  We hate to have a break right now when we’re playing so well but definitely need it to get healthy and get some rest.”

Boys Basketball:

MOC-FV 64, Sibley-Ocheyedan 50

George-Little Rock 69, Okoboji 44

Okoboji Recap:

The Okoboji Pioneers hosted George Little Rock in Milford Friday night. The Mustangs brought a balanced attack as they worked out to a lead in the first quarter and did not look back. The first quarter ended 20-13 Mustangs. The half ended 38-22 Mustangs. George Little Rock continued their push into the third quarter with a score of 55-29. The game ended with a final score of 69-44. The Pioneers were led by Cris Halbur's 9. Tyler Adams and Kyle Martin both contributed 7. The Mustangs were led by Lucas Nagel's 16 points. Jayden Mauldin also contributed 13 on the night.

Coach's Comments: "I think a lot of credit needs to be given to George-Little Rock who made it difficult for us to find our offensive rhythm for stretches in this game. They are a very balanced and well rounded team and showed that tonight by hitting their outside shots as well as working the ball inside. We thought that we did some nice things for stretches in the game. The key for us will be continuing to find ways to extend those stretches into full games night after night. Our guys listen well and work very hard, so we are excited to get back after that goal coming off of break."
